All right, it is no secret by now that I LOVE Airbnb Experiences. I am 100% their target customer hah! This is because prior to this new service, I spent countless hours researching “unique/one of a kind/exclusive/special/romantic/etc experiences in (enter wherever we were going).” I was desperate to find authentic experiences that would allow me to connect with locals and immerse myself in their culture. Today on the blog, I’m sharing my best tips for how to use Airbnb Experiences to connect with locals on your next trip!
When Airbnb Came Around…
Ladies and gentlemen, this extensive research was fun only in the beginning and then it became very painful! So when Airbnb came around, I was HOOKED! It’s like they found these special humans from all over the world, created this beautiful home for them all to live in, and then handed me an invite valid for any time of the year. I mean… Mind.Blown.
“Pinch Me” Moments
We have had so many incredible experiences and the one I want to share today is the one that led me to the beautiful, incredible, and multi-talented Chef Viviana. Today, I get to call her friend. Pinch me, someone!
How to Find What You’re Looking For on Airbnb Experiences
Finding an Airbnb experience you love is super easy, too. All you have to do is go to their website or download the app, enter the date of travel and where you’d like to go, and voila! There are so many unique off-the-beaten-path things to do and equally special homes to stay at. If by now you think this is an ad, it’s not – I wish it was though! Anyone at Airbnb listening? Lol!
How to Connect & Form Friendships with Locals
We met Viviana the second time we were in Puerto Rico in February 2020. It was just before we went into lockdown and the pandemic hit us hard. So glad we made these memories when we did. Viviana’s place is in Santurce; the hip, artsy neighborhood that is home to the Puerto Rico Museum of Art. Perfect spot for someone as vibrant her! What made her cooking class so special was the fact that she told us stories about the food, where it came from, how some of it has evolved over time, and even personal stories from her childhood. Viviana is also a published author and currently runs her own catering business.
Enjoy the Local Flavors
I’ll let the pictures do the talking this time because they truly tell a colorful story, don’t you think? Let me know if you have any questions about searching for experiences on Airbnb! It’s my favorite thing to do!
